Hey Hey,
Its been quite some time since you were last subjected to my ramblings about a disc but I am back baby and have quite a few reviews on the way. Michael asked me to take a look at this first disc so here goes.
The Big Sound - Stand So Tall
The sound of The Big Sound is very first wave. Piano and organ heavy rhythm tracks keep this kid very happy. Simple bass and drum lines keep the rocksteady in check, while the vocals are sweet and easy on the ears.
The only thing missing in my mind is a horn section. I hear the lines in my head and they would sound sweet in some of the more open section of their songs. Vocalist Colin Giles plays the melodica but its just not the same as hearing a three piece horn section laying down some sweet brass action. The instrumental track Serious is a prime example of where the horns would make a tune that much more interesting.
Standout Tracks : She Just Don't Know Me, Stand So Tall, Where Have You Gone To, You're Beautiful, You're On My Mind
The Big Sound aren't looking to reinvent the wheel with this record. There is nothing new about their sound but they do it very well. Every track is rock solid and you can tell these guys can really play. A record for fans of the rocksteady sound. You can learn more about the band at www.thebigsound.com.
