beNUTS - A Firstful of Offbeat

A Fistful of Offbeat

This was my first introduction to this crazy band...I am not sure if its German or Dutch (Michael The band is German) that vocalist Robert A. Johnson tosses into the mix but it definetely catches your ear. According to the liner notes the band has been together for 12 years which is no easy feat for a band of any genre. If anything the ep is a little short which simply leads to repeated listens.

The tone is very light hearted and fun...think old Millencolin back when they still played their brand of pop ska. The first tune I Wish I was Cool Like Becky Austin is catchy as hell while the chorus to Violence come eerily close to Green Day's Welcome To Paradise. The third tune is a fun re-working of Bob Marley's Redemption Song now called Caribbean Band.

Check out the bands website for more info.
