Love Songs and Dance Numbers
So I was extremely lucky enough to have a cake baked for my birthday for this show. A BIG THANKS to Adrienne for making me one of the most delicious cakes I've ever had.
I don't remember much from this night, but it was a ton of fun, and I wasn't the only one having it. All you need to do is look at the pictures of the crowd I have included in the Frankie Foo set.
Karate Ska Part III
I always loved the weird venue that the Rising Sun Dojo is. What is not to love about a karate dojo with a climbing wall while a concert is going on?
The Lunateers opened the show and killed it, as they did for each of their shows they ever played. It was nice to see some all ages kids get into that older sound.
Staylefish was on next, and the kids ate it up. With a Sublime-influenced sound, it was no surprise. They played quite well, even if it isn't my favourite sort of sound within the genre.
One Night Band blew me away. It is a shame they don't have the female portion of the band anymore. Each of their members are significantly strong with their instruments, and they write such amazing music.
Keepin' 6 just took it up a notch. The kids ate it up. Most people their age that like ska, are more into the ska-punk, and so they ate out of their hands. Circle-pits, and yelling into the microphone galore.
2-Tone Toronto Ska
So this was my first time seeing Street Corner Skandal. I had seen the members are several other shows in town, so it was about time I checked these guys out. I remember being quite impressed. A nice balance of being laid back, while picking up the energy when needed to.
Skaface was great at always. They seemed to have bleeding energy on this night. It wasn't a packed night, but I remember there was a good-sized crowd there, and I think that helped a lot. Good set from a good band.
